Changing Cell Phone Carrier Tips

Are you getting the best bang for your buck?  Are you truly getting the most out of your cell phone that you can get?  Now is a great time to stop and make sure you.  Here are some easy tips to help you consider changing your cell phone carrier to get an even better deal.

Evaluate Your Current Usage

Do you text a lot?  Or not at all?  Do you make lots of phone calls?  Do you use your cell phone only?  Or a combination of your cell phone and home phone?  And what about internet usage.  Record your average usage from the last 6 months.  If you have no clue, ask your current carrier for a record of usage.  They keep all of that on file even for unlimited customers!

Price Shop

Check out the main carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T, but also, do not hesitate to check out pay per month carriers such as Boost, Page Plus, and more.

Prioritize Your Needed Features

For myself, I like to text; however, I do not do much currently as I have decided that is a charge I can cut out of my phone bill.  I do need e-mail on my phone for my work, so that is a priority.  I also do not carry a lot of minutes, but I do carry a phone that has unlimited “in-calling” with other Verizon customers which allows me to talk to my parents and grandfather as much and as long as I want to as they are also Verizon customers.

Make a Decision

This is often the hardest part, but do remember that your decision is not set in stone.  If you are absolutely not satisfied, most companies do have a satisfaction guarantee, but do read the fine print.  At worst case, you would have to be with them for two years…not a lifetime…but no decision is worse than a wrong decision on a cell phone which can be changed.

Don’t Cancel Too Early

Do not cancel your current plan until you purchase your new plan.  By waiting, you ensure that your current phone number can be “ported” or transferred to your new plan as well as that you have constant coverage.

Get Everything in Writing

When you speak to someone on the phone concerning rate quotes, setting up your account, canceling your account, etc, write down their name, the date, time you spoke with them, and what is supposed to happen.  This way if something does not happen as planned, you will have documentation.

Get a Headset

Finally, remember to pick up a headset to go with your phone, so that you do not have all those transmissions near your brain as well as to be the safest driver on the roads possible if you are using it in the car!
