Why I Choose Medical Sharing Instead of Traditional Health Insurance Insurance is a necessary item with our high medical costs that are only rising, but have you ever felt like a number to your insurance agency? Have you ever considered the fact that your money is going into a pool of money that can be used to fund abortions and other procedures that we as believers do no morally agree with? Let alone take into consideration the constant rising costs of your premiums. Well, I have to say that I love the alternative that I have found. My family has been part of a Christian medical sharing ministry since 2006. My dad is self employed, so he was paying extremely high premiums with a $2,000 deductible. We began searching for a better way to cover our medical needs when we realized that there was a way we could save money, be a part of meeting the needs of the body of believers, and be much more in control of our own health needs. After researching all three main companies, my family decided on Samaritan Ministries. What were the reasons for our decision? 1) They were one the most reasonable; 2) We found that your monthly share goes directly to the member in need. You only send an annual membership fee directly to Samaritan’s to cover their administration costs. Then, earlier this year, I went on full-time staff with Crown. This means I could now receive benefits. After looking at the health insurance provided by Crown which was good coverage and normal for what most companies provide, I realized that I could save the ministry $2,000 a year and myself another $1,000 if they were willing to allow me to stay with Samaritan’s and help pay for it. They willingly did so by increasing my salary to cover my costs and did not put me on their insurance plan. Now I have the privilege of continuing to share in other believer’s medical needs, praying for them, and putting in a note of concern each month. It not only makes a “bill” less difficult on my pocketbook, but it makes it a ministry. My family has had a need shared and that was fully covered as promised. In addition, Samaritan’s has very helpful member support anytime you have questions. I would highly recommend Medical health care sharing to anyone. And finally, the last benefit that I can think of is a personal one. I met my best friend, Ellie, through this ministry. We shared in her youngest sister’s birth need. Due to the fact that Naomi was born with Down’s Syndrome, she would need ongoing medical care, so we asked to be kept updated. Over the next year or so, we kept in touch, I created a website with updates about Naomi, and Ellie and I became great friends. Now, can you say that about your health coverage? If you do decide to check out Samaritan’s, please let them know that you heard about it from me as they love to know when a member shares about the ministry!
